Are You Consciously Creating the Lifestyle You Desire?
I’m writing this article near the Fourth of July holiday. Here in the USA our forefathers and mothers left dire or distressing circumstances, left their homelands, and struck out on a new life course to achieve freedom and independence. We reap the many benefits of their initial sacrifices and efforts.
While you all have struggles in your daily lives, you also have enormous freedom to pursue happiness, to envision and create more of what you want in your personal and professional life—especially if you work for a good company or you run your own business.
What Makes Your Lifestyle Independent, Free and Happy?
So that raises these questions I want to pose for you as we celebrate this major summer holiday marking FREEDOM, INDEPENDENCE and the pursuit of HAPPINESS.
My wish is these questions spark an awareness of the connections between your WORK, your PROFITS and your ABILITY TO CONSCIOUSLY CREATE A LIFESTYLE that supports you to do your best work in the world. My wish is they spark moments of gratitude.
Are you clear about what you are working for?
Most of you are working to share your gifts, creativity and knowledge. Your primary goal is not the money, yet money is a vehicle; it’s a means to achieve or acquire other things. What are your priorities? Does your money bring you the freedom to play as well as work? Does it allow you time with the people you love and activities that connect you to your higher purpose?
Do you allow yourself to dream big? Or bigger?
Are you doing what you really love at least somewhere in your life? If you’re spending 40-60 hours each week working for yourself or in a company, is it satisfying? How are you getting in your own way of making your work or your working relationships more satisfying? How are you keeping yourself from expressing yourself freely. Are you encouraging those around you to dream big?
It’s easy to bring one another down. It’s called low morale. It’s actually quite easy to build one another up. Think Big. Dream Big. Stick to the high road. You’ll attract other like-minded people to join you or you’ll eventually know if it’s time to go find your people and your purposeful work elsewhere.
When I say “lifestyle” what comes to mind?
Do you think of the people you want to be around? How you want to spend your time? What are the “things” you surround yourself with? Are they truly beautiful and useful. Do you love them? What is the legacy you would like to leave?
Abundance. It isn’t the amount of money you accumulate. Although having money is really okay. It is a vehicle for making other things happen.
What’s important is surrounding yourself with the people and things you really love. I mean really L-O-V-E. Life’s too short not to be truly choiceful, intentional. Full of choice. Filled with visionary intention.
Become a Role-Model to Raise Other’s Up
Our ancestors sought more. They even fought for more. Not because they were selfish, but because they wanted more freedoms, liberty and equality—abundance—for everyone.
If you want more for those around you, say your children, your mate the planet, you must start with yourself. Start with letting yourself have more—more beauty, kindness, spirit, caring, profit, abundance, health, happiness, rest, play, love, and so on…
So staying “small” is not something to aspire to. When you enrich YOUR life (not at the expense of others, but using your expertise and talents to lead them) you become a beacon showing others what is possible. When you raise yourself up it also allows others to raise themselves up. They see what is possible in you. And you become a guide—a leader toward an enriching life.
